Showcase festivals and conference are the incubators of the European music business, launching new artists and connecting professionals. Europe’s leading showcase festivals have joined together to create INES, a network that increases creative exchange across borders.
The original INES partners have already begun enriching Europe’s music industry by swapping artists and professionals, and adding high-quality content sessions to their conference schedules. At the most recent festival (LiverpoolSound City ), the number of visiting European professionals increased by 25% as a result of INES.
To further develop international synergies and connect music business hubs, INES is now beginning to expand. New partner will join in network activities that increase the connectivity of the European music business. These include nominating local artists to the INES#talent pool for selection at other festivals, inviting cross-border professionals to attend their conferences, and sharing knowledge with fellow event organizers.
Since launching in early 2018, INES has fielded interest from several showcase festivals across Europe wishing to participate. The first four new partners have now been accepted into the network:
Budapest Showcase Hub
BuSH launched in 2015 with the goal of promoting Eastern Europe’s music industry. It offers conference sessions to boost professional development, and a public festival presenting new and established bands from cross the east. BuSH takes place in several venues across Budapest each November.
Now in its 15th year, c/o pop is one of the most important music industry events in Europe. It incorporates a festival combining headline artists and newcomers, and a conference with top level speakers. Each spring, c/o pop brings together bands, brands and technology companies for exchange and development.
Part of the Milano Music Week in November, Linecheck explores Italy’s music industry and its relationship with the global scene. It hosts more than 100 artists and 40 guest speakers in both Italian and English sessions.
Prague, Czech Republic
The first ever showcase festival in the Czech Republic, Nouvelle Prague is held in a brewery in the heart of the city each November. It started in 2014 and has won numerous awards.
As part of its founding mission, INES aims to grow to encompass 40 partners across all of Europe. All festivals fitting the description of a showcase event – those that present new talent and provide business exchange through a professional conference – are welcome to apply to become partners. The more participating festivals, the greater the chance for exchange and education between European musicians and music professionals.
144 professionals have now travelled to other festivals across borders, boosting transnational mobility. 104 artists have been nominated to the INES#talent pool, and 60 bookings for performances at the participating festivals were confirmed for the 2018 festival season.
With eight more festivals to come this year, there is still plenty of opportunity for artistic and professional exchange between Europe’s most exciting family of innovative festivals.
